In early 2009, after two years of endless research and composition, I released "Thanatotropic Principle", which was supposed to be a transition EP (sic) while waiting for the first album (sic) - the one with Tariq Zulficar on drums which never got finished, for a shitload of bad mental health reasons. Such a waste. Anyways. Quite like the "Missed Springs" EP, I finished it while spring arrived, without overthinking, and with the intent of actually * finishing * something ; and through this action, to gather strength and "finishing energy" (a rare and precious one) for the bigger project. The opening track, "And I Shall Never Be", was composed and recorded within a single hour, in a Darkthrone / Isvind spirit ; no bullshit, no mindfucking, just an urge to play melancholic and intense black metal. It remains one of my favorites from this era, showing me that I don't always need to overthink things when it comes to the creative process. Like, wow I can record a cool finished song in such a small time : how come I can't finish an album, procrastinate it for years, and completely abandon it? (Short answer : the self-destructive mindfuck is strong with this one)
It drew a lot from death, grind, and hardcore - I became way too scattered stylistically at that point and ultimately, this is what lost me. Lots of good bits here and there though, I love the Marguerite Duras and Chrono Trigger references.
The cover art depicts the Tsar Bomba on my hometown, seen from a panorama I loved. I used to have hallucinations of mushroomclouds, That's how fucked up I was.
